Cherie Oakley began singing and performing as a child when she joined her family on an Evangelical Christian music tour. She would eventually find her way to Nashville, TN where she soon became one of the most highly sought after backup vocalists in the industry performing on the road and at multiple awards shows with artists such as Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Gretchen Wilson, Martina McBride, and Amy Grant. In addition to her work as a background vocalist she is also a highly talented songwriter with Reba McEntire’s #1 Hit “Turn on the Radio” to her credit. She appeared on the debut season of The Voice and was selected to Christina Aguilera’s team. She continued touring and recording as a backup singer until 2017 when she signed a deal with Number One Group, Now working with Paul Worley and renowned producer Dan Huff, she has just released her debut single as an artist, “Work It.” The new upbeat and energetic song is about women taking charge and facing any challenge life may send their way. “I wanted to write a female empowerment song that was fun, up-tempo and celebratory of women,”
Oakley said in an interview with CMT.com. “This is a release from an upcoming collection that’s part of a streaming dialogue.” The video directed by Patrick Tohill debuted on CMT last Friday and I hope you’ll choose to share it with your readers!
