Where are you from?
I moved from Lynchburg, Virginia, to Nashville about five years ago.
Who are your musical influences?
I grew up listening to mostly Contemporary Christian Music. I love Nicole Nordeman’s tone and Natalie Grant’s powerful voice, and their songs and lyrics were always compelling. In middle school, I was given Martina McBride’s Greatest Hits album, and that rocked my world. Her song “Concrete Angel” made me want to sing country music because of the real and raw emotion in the lyrics and melody. I also watched Carrie Underwood win American Idol and have always admired her voice and stage presence so much!
Where do you get your inspiration?
It is my passion to use music as a platform to share my story, so my inspiration mainly flows from a desire to truly impact and help people. I know that The Lord used my former eating disorder to help me learn that my identity is in Him and not in my appearance or in my singing career, and I now feel that I have a responsibility to share hope with others. My husband is also a main source of my inspiration, not only because he inspires songwriting ideas, but because he is my biggest fan as I chase my dreams!
What are you currently working on?
Since releasing my debut EP back in May, I have been doing all I can to get my story out there in relation to my song “Little Girl in the Mirror”. Booking gigs to build more of a fan base is my main focus right now, as well as booking school assemblies! I have developed an Assembly Program in association with the National Eating Disorders Association where I will go and perform, share my story, and talk about body image, body positivity, and social media pressures.
