Story behind the Song:
About a year and a half or ago I had gotten a call really late at work from my sister who had some terrible news. I found out that my childhood best friend who was in the US coast guard had committed suicide. We had grown up next door to each other the entirety of our childhood. The next day, I sat down and this song just poured out of me in about 30 minutes. I wrote it because I’m that moment I got the news, I was both so terribly sad, but also so suddenly aware how this life we live is so fragile and precious. We only get so much time on this earth and it’s a shame to allow all the problems and pain we face on a daily basis to cloud the beauty and life of the world around us. The best way I can put it, is your feelings and problems are always going to be there. You can’t just pretend they don’t exist, but you talk about them, allow yourself to accept and confront them and let them go even if it’s for just a moment. And remind yourself every day to smell the fresh air, catch a snowflake on your tongue or feel the warmth of the sun on your skin and remember how truly lucky we are to be here.
